Adopt a Child

CARA primarily deals with adoption of orphan, abandoned and surrendered children through its associated /recognized adoption agencies. The adoption process is monitored by Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA). 

CARA is a statutory body of Ministry of Women & Child Development, Government of India. It functions as the nodal body for adoption of Indian children and is mandated to monitor and regulate in-country and inter-country adoptions. CARA is designated as the Central Authority to deal with inter-country adoptions in accordance with the provisions of the Hague Convention on Inter-country Adoption, 1993, ratified by Government of India in 2003. CARA has defined the eligibility criteria for prospective adoptive parents in order to be able to adopt a child.

Keep away from touts/middlemen. There is no role of touts/middlemen in adoption. They will mislead you to adopt a child illegally. Do not upload any incorrect document on the CARA website, else your registration will be cancelled. 

Through illegal adoption, you may unintentionally become part of child trafficking network. Save yourself from legal ramifications.

The Ministry has 6 autonomous organizations viz.

working under its aegis. NIPCCD and RMK are societies registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. CSWB is a charitable company registered under section 25 of the Indian Companies Act, 1956. These organizations are fully funded by the Govt. of India and they assist the Department in its functions including implementation of some programmers /schemes. The National Commission for Women was constituted as a national apex statutory body in 1992 for protecting and safeguarding the rights of women. The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights which is a national level apex statutory body constituted in the March 2007 for protecting and safe guarding the rights of children.
