E Arch Diocese Council, The Bishop’s House, is in the same compound. St. Thomas Boy’s Home Orphanage is functioning near the main complex. Syriac Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch

Damascus, Syria

According to ecclesiastical tradition, the Church of Antioch is the oldest church in the world established after Jerusalem in the c. 1st century AD. The Disciples of Jesus Christ were first called Christians in Antioch. During c. 12th century AD, conflicts and massacres had caused the offices to be moved from Antioch to the Monastery of St. Ananias in Mardin until 1932.

The Patriarchate was transferred to Damascus in 1957 after the World War II. There is also a branch office in Atchaneh, Lebanon which currently serves as the residence of the Patriarch.
